Today marks two years since your passing Nigel, and while there’s a huge hole in our hearts, there’s also a life lesson that you taught us — life is too short. You were the heart and soul of this family, and that’s why we’ve set up the Nigel Prosser Foundation. Through our SEN charity, your memory lives on, and it’s built on the kindness and love you gave so freely to everyone around you. This foundation wouldn’t exist if we weren’t grieving the loss of you. You’ve left behind a legacy that’s helping so many children with special educational needs and their families across the UK.

I hope you’re proud of everything we’re doing for the charity, and I know you can see just how missed and loved you are. You mean the world to us, and one day, we’ll be together again.

Those was the days…

I always think about how the sales at The Station Inn have dropped since you left. I hope they’re still serving Butty Bach where you are, as we know how much you loved it! We still visit the pub sometimes, and seeing your chair with your name plaque brings both comfort and sadness — wishing you were there, laughing and enjoying life as you always did.

You amazed me with how you handled everything. When you found out about your cancer diagnosis, you just got on with it quietly, never wanting to make a fuss. It broke so many hearts when you passed, not just because we all miss you, but because so many people wished they could’ve supported you the way you always supported them. You were the go-to person for advice, always the one people turned to for an outside perspective, and the world feels a little less bright without you here.

I’ll always remember the day we told you we were pregnant with Toby. You were the first person we told, and seeing the tears in your eyes and the hug you gave us is something I will never forget. Sue wasn’t quite as impressed as she was second to know, but I think she got over it! What breaks my heart most is thinking about your relationship with Toby. He doesn’t have his best friend by his side anymore. I loved seeing how much you loved him and the bond you shared. Sue would always bring him into the bedroom to see you first thing before breakfast when he stayed over because you wanted to give him your morning snuggles.

You’d worry the moment he had a little cold or cough and insist that he be checked over by a doctor. You’d often pop by to see the kids on your lunch breaks, and you’d be so disappointed if they were napping because all you wanted was a Toby cuddle to brighten your day. He refused cuddles from anyone else, but not you! Grandad Chubby was his world, and it pains me that he no longer has you in his life.

Nellie was only 11 months old when you passed, so she was so young, but Toby was 2 and a half. Although Nellie was so little, she still knows who you are when we point out your face in pictures. She always says, “That’s Grandad,” and that’s the best feeling.

Life after Nigels passing

Today, more than any other day, everyone who knew you is thinking of you. It’s been two years since you left our side, and we’re remembering all the good times we had with you and picturing your cheeky smile. The kids will always remember their Grandad Chubby and how much you adored them — I promise you that.

One of the most emotional moments for me was when we played Dancing with My Eyes Closed by Ed Sheeran at your funeral. Now, every time I hear it, I can’t help but think of you. It’s like you’re still with us, dancing through life with that smile and that quiet joy you always had, even when things got tough. You never let the hard times stop you from being present, from living fully.

When I listen to that song, I can almost picture you, dancing through life, smiling that cheeky smile of yours. It’s a reminder that, even though you’re no longer here in person, we can still feel your presence in everything we do. Your love, your laughter, and your spirit are always with us, guiding us, even when we have our eyes closed.

Lots of love,
Shelly xx
